Bank Staff – Adhoc hours

Responsible to:        Manager, Deputy Manager, Room Leader,

Purpose of the job: 

To work as part of a team under the direction of the Room Leaders to provide safe, secure, high quality education and care for children aged 2 – 4 years ensuring that the safeguarding and well-being of all children is paramount at all times.

Key responsibilities:

  • To be alert to issues of safeguarding and child protection, ensuring that the welfare and safety of children attending Kaleidoscope is promoted and to follow safeguarding procedures as detailed in our policies and as directed by the local safeguarding team.
  • To be vigilant in maintaining children’s well-being, health and safety, promoting good practice within pre-school.
  • To work within Kaleidoscope’s policies and procedures.
  • To assist with the planning and setting up of appropriate, interesting and stimulating activities, following children’s interests to further the children’s experiences and learning
  • To appropriately support the children during activities, being a good role model and promoting their learning
  • To be a key person for an allocated group of children, ensuring care and planning experiences which meet their individual needs and interests and building strong relationships with parents ensuring that they feel valued and supported in developing learning at home.
  • To assess children’s progress through observations, keeping accurate records of levels of development.  Using observations and information from parents to plan the next steps for learning, identifying any cause for concern about a child’s learning and development
  • To work with our SENCo to identify children who need further support and assist in the planning and monitoring of key children’s targeted plans.
  • To build and maintain effective communication and positive relationships with other staff, parents and outside professionals to ensure that children’s needs are recognised and met. 
  • To attend staff meetings, including regular supervision meetings and annual appraisals with the manager.
  • To be active in identifying and fulfilling your own CPD needs, including a commitment to attending both in house and external training and cascading information to the staff team.
  • To keep completely confidential any information regarding children, their families or staff which is acquired as part of your employment here.
  • To be professional and ensure that Kaleidoscope’s reputation is maintained and promoted.

  • It is in the nature of the work that tasks and responsibilities are in many circumstances unpredictable and varied. Therefore, all staff are expected to work in a flexible way.

There may be occasions when tasks have to be undertaken which are not specifically covered in this job description.

  • DBS: This post is subject to a criminal record check by the Disclosure and Barring Service. This level is enhanced.
  • All posts at Kaleidoscope are subject to a six months probationary period.
  • This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (1974). Staff must be prepared to disclose any convictions they may have and any orders which have been made against them. Person Specification

Essential CriteriaDesirable Criteria
Experience
 Experience of working in a childcare setting. Experience of working with and building strong relationships with parents/carers.
Qualifications and training
  Early years qualification to Level 2 Willingness to attend in house and external training which might occasionally be in the evenings or at weekends.Early Years qualification level 3 Recent appropriate safeguarding training. A current Paediatric First Aid certificate.
Knowledge
A sound knowledge of child development from birth to five years. A sound knowledge of the Early Years  Foundation Stage (EYFS) and its implementation. Knowledge of child protection and safeguarding procedures. Knowledge of particular health and safety issues relevant to this age group.
Job related skills and abilities
Good communication skills. Effective team working skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to deliver fully inclusive practice. Ability to work in a spontaneous and flexible way.
